After a full breakfast at the Molesworth Arms, your intrepid cyclists headed out of Wadebridge along the Camel Trail to Bodmin. There were patches of blue in the sky and birds sang as we followed the old Southern Railway trackbed alongside the River Camel, thinking that this part of the journey would have been even easier if the trains still ran! Arriving in Bodmin with time to spare before our next engagement we had a cup of tea at the aptly-named Folly Cafe.
Then on to Bodmin College to meet the Year 11 students at their assembly and share with them why two ageing green cyclists were cycling to Paris; Roger and I did a bit of a double-act and, assisted by a few powerpoints were able to get the story across (I think!). Back into the centre of town, once again a bit of spare time so popped into the local Wetherspoons for another drink; Roger sensibly stuck to coffee, while I checked out a beer called Sin Bin. Read into that what you will!
On to the Shire Hall where we were met by the Mayor and Clerk to the Town Council (actually it was the Mayor and Deputy Mayor – sorry about the misremember) and posed on the steps of the Hall for pictures of handing over the Climate Vision Report. Set out at 1.00pm into heavy rain and pounded our way up past the Police Centre, over the A30 and onto minor roads past Cardinam and onto Mount and St Neot. The rain disappeared and the road went up, then down, then up, then down, then up, clipping the edge of the moor I was seeing parts of Cornwall I had never seem before.
Eventually dropped down towards the dreaded A38 and fortunately found a cycle path most of the way into town, arriving dead on time (not literally) at the Liskeard Council Chambers to be greeted by the Mayor, Clerk and couple of Councilors. After the obligatory photoshoot of us handing over the report, we retired to the Mayor’s parlour for tea, mini-pasties and scones. Much refreshed, we then headed round to Piers’n’Kath’s’s place, our billet for the night. Showered, fed, and watered, we then headed down to the Barley Sheaf to meet any local people who wished to know more about our venture.
We’ll try and post some pictures before we leave in the morning. Wonder how far Ricky has got?
It was the Mayor and Deputy Mayor not Clerk in Bodmin Chaps lol
